Rushden & Diamonds striker Sam Smith says the 2-1 win over Cambridge United gives them the edge ahead of the reverse fixture on Saturday.Smith hit the first goal against the U's in Tuesday's game at Nene Park.

The 20-year-old told BBC Radio Northampton: "We do concede sloppy goals, and they had nine men behind the ball, so we had to be patient.

"We've got the psychological edge over them and we really believe we'll get three points on Saturday."

Smith hopes to retain his place in Justin Edinburgh's starting XI for the trip to Cambridge after having had an injury-hit campaign so far with a broken foot and a groin strain.

"It took a while for me to get my legs going, but I'll get better the more games I do start," he added.

"I didn't affect the game as much as I would have liked to in the first half but I came out in the second half and felt like I had more freedom.

"If the manager sticks with me, I hope I can repay his faith."
